Merry Christmas!! Feliz Navidad!!

Belly's 1st visit with Santa, 12/24/07

We would like to extend best wishes to all of our family and friends, both near and far, to have a wonderful, safe, and happy holiday! It's Christmas time again and we are reminded how thankful we are to have such good people in our lives.

2007 has been a good year to us. Greg had a major promotion at work and with continued training and hard work, is on his way to becoming a general manager for Chipotle in the next year or so. Annie is finally finished with all of her training at the dispatch center and recently became a coach herself. We have been blessed to have such success at work, and thanks to the promotions, have even been fortunate to have had some sizable raises this year.

We are also thankful for good health for both our little family, but also for our immediate family. Isabella, who turned 4 years old in May, is growing like a weed and is very healthy, happy, and smart. She started reading this year and is able to write some 3 letter words now. Kindergarten is not far off (she starts next September). She is full of energy and brings more joy to us than we could have ever imagined.

Of course, with all the good, a few sad things highlighted the year. We lost Greg's grandmother, Donna, to a long term illness. We did have a chance to spend some time with her before she was no longer communicating, and we are glad to have those final memories. We also lost Gary's father, Bill, to a long term illness. He was a great guy who loved to spend time chatting with Belly when they were up in Portland visiting.

We also received word that Chris, Greg's brother, was being called up for active duty to serve overseas. He is currently in training and is set to deploy to Iraq sometime in March 2008. The call up for service was a surprise to both Chris and the rest of the family. We are all praying for a safe deployment and a speedy return back home to the U.S.

Other highlights of the year included Belly's 1st trip to Disneyland (she LOVED it!), a trip to Dodger Stadium for Greg's birthday, and a couple trips up to Seattle.

With 2008 right around the corner, we are wishing for continued good health, success, and happiness. We are committed to becoming debt free this year and sticking with the baby steps outlined by Dave Ramsey. Thus far, those steps have helped us save an emergency fund, create and maintain a dollar for dollar budget each month, and pay down a large chunk of debt. We are proud of our accomplishments and hope to have earned some serious bragging rights by the end of next year.

We are planning to do some traveling in 2008 as well. Plans are already in the works to visit New York for a chance to see Yankee Stadium before it's too gone, a trip to Hawaii if time permits, baseball excursions in Seattle, and the usual jaunts to CA to visit family and friends. We hope 2008 brings some visitors to our neck of the world too (Portland is very beautiful we hear *wink, wink*)!

We ask for God's blessing for you and your family for good health, happiness, success, and safety. Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Happy Hanukah, Merry Kwanzaa, Merry (enter holiday here)! Have a SAFE and HAPPY New Year!

Love,
Greg, Annie, and Belly

P.S. Please visit the blog as often as you like. We love visitors and visitor comments (you don't have to share an email address or join a blogging community to send comments) and we try and post updates and random stuff at least twice a month.

It's the holiday season

This has been a busy last few weeks, thus, the blog posts have come to a screeching halt. We love this time of year and all the hustle-bustle it brings (I don't love traffic though, but thats a rant for another time).

Greg started off the month working insane hours as one of the opening training managers at the new Chipotle that opened in Tualatin, OR. He really enjoyed being a part of the SWAT (Chipotle speak) and the store opening. It was great experience. However, because of the crazy hours, we postponed getting our Christmas tree until the 2nd week in December which is a first for us I think.

Belly was sooooo excited to get the tree. We picked out a really fragrant Grand Fir tree and let Belly do the ornament hanging. She took a lot of pride in the decorating and she did a great job. She loves the holidays so much. Each year she becomes so much more animated about gift giving and so on and so forth. It is the best time of year for us.

Belly also had something else to look forward to this month. Her long awaited swim lessons! Classes just ended this last Friday and she did wonderful! She took to water like a fish and she had so much fun. Check out the pictures below.

We have attended a couple Christmas parties and have done our fair share of shopping, gift wrapping, and shipping! The most exciting news for us is WE ARE DONE SHOPPING!! A couple of gifts aren't due to arrive until after the actual holiday but most everything already arrived. For the first time ever, we actually finished our shopping before the 24th of Dec. I don't know how the heck we were organized this year, but it sure was a nice change.

Enjoying a night out after Greg's Christmas party.

So far this has been a great month. We celebrated our anniversary this month (8 years!), budgeted our shopping so we don't feel the pain next month (more exciting than the budget-- we spent responsibly!), have had a great time doing holiday things with Belly, had snowfall and lots of rain at our house (exciting!), and we have had a chance to spend a lot of time together as a family.

Tomorrow the plans are to go to Bryan and Julie's house for Christmas Eve, but before we go there, Belly is making her last minute trek to visit Santa. We are looking forward to it, it will be fun. I will post more tomorrow while I slave away at the 911 phones on Christmas Eve. Lets all keep our fingers crossed for a quiet and uneventful night.

Hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday season so far!

P.S. A big congratulations to our friends Frances and Bill-- they just welcomed their new little guy, Booker, on Friday 12/21. He looks just like Frances and is very cute. :o)

P.P.S. Happy Birthday to our favorite Korean, Misun!

We made it past the seven year itch!

Technically yesterday now, but Happy Anniversary to us! whoo hoo!
8 years down, many more to go.

Yep, thats right folks. Eight years ago today we were in Vegas gettin' hitched. We had quite the adventure planning the shin-dig like... trying to plan where to have the event (at least 3 different locations), figuring out how a far away wedding and guests worked (ended up OK afterall), getting to Vegas, managing to stay sane while our bridal party was pretty much MIA and leaving us to do the bulk of the last minute stuff, and last but not least, getting our debit card stolen and being ripped off hundreds of dollars from a gas station worker in Visalia (long story) whilst planning the whole thing. Somehow, through all the drama of planning a wedding, we managed to make it to the altar at 7:00pm that Saturday night and sign our lives away on the dotted line.

Would we do things different today? Well, in retrospect, I might have suggested eloping (haha!) or doing some of the planning a little different but the decision to take the leap and get married wouldn't change at all. Each of the last 8 years has brought us a new adventure and another story for us to tell the grandkids someday. God has blessed us with a great marriage, good friendship, a healthy, smart, and happy child, and supportive family and friends.

Engaged! May 1998.

Married! December 4, 1999.

Awwww.... after a decade of togetherness, we still like each other! 12/4/07

Grand Finale!

Today was Belly's last day of tap dancing. We signed her up in September and for the last 10 or 11 Tuesdays she has been tappin' away and learning some basic moves. I think the next dance class we sign up for will be at a studio in town, maybe in spring next year. Since today was the last class the kids put on a little show for the parents. Scroll down for a clip of the grand finale!
